Borderlands is a First-Person Role-Playing Game series developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The first game, Borderlands, was revealed in a 2007 Issue of GameInformer, and was released in 2009 to surprisingly great reviews, with many praising the co-op, humor, and shooting aspects mixed with role-playing elements, but criticized it's paper-thin and predictable story. A sequel, Borderlands 2, was confirmed years later in another issue of GameInformer, and released in 2012 to critical praise for it's improvements over the original in the story, loot, and gameplay.
