Well, here I am! Conker the King... king of all the land! Who'd a thought that? But how did I come to this, you say? And who are those strange fellows that surround my throne? That you also say! Well. It's a long story. Come closer and I'll tell you. It all started... yesterday. And what a day that was! It's what I call... a bad fur day!
— Conker in the Clockwork Orange-parodying intro

Released towards the end of the Nintendo 64's lifespan, and one of the last games Rare would make for Nintendo consoles before being bought by Microsoft, Conker's Bad Fur Day is a comedic Adventure-platformer game. Originally starting out as a child-friendly game known as Conker's Quest and later Twelve Tales: Conker 64, marketed towards families. RareWare worried that the game not differentiate from other platformers, and would turn out as "yet another cute platformer". After many delays and a design overhaul, the game was thought to be cancelled until it's new reveal in 2000, showing off the more adult-oriented content and humor. Worried by the game's content, Nintendo refused to advertise the game in magazines and stores, even going as far to not publishing the game in Europe.

Bad Fur Day was released in 2001 to critical praise after much anticipation. Gameplay differed from previous Rare platformers such as Banjo and Donkey Kong, focusing on different objectives rather than item collection. The game also had a Mature rating to do it's strong language, violence, sexual themes, and adult humor.
