Resident Evil, known in Japan as Biohazard, is a long-running video game franchise from Capcom, based on classic Zombie films and stories. Starting off as a series of Survival-Horror games with notoriously difficult controls and comical dialogue in part thanks to poor translations, the series slowly transitioned into a series of third-person shooter action games, beginning with Resident Evil 4. The series remains one of Capcom's highest profile game franchises, having been described as one of the highest selling game franchises of all time, and having spun off into numerous other forms of media, such as a successful (though critically panned) film franchise, various comic series and numerous novels.
